METEOROLOGIST, BRAD SOWDER TO SPEAK to Epworth Villa Residents
Meteorologist Brad Sowder serves as weekday morning Meteorologist for KOCO 5 News in The Morning. During severe weather, Sowder takes to the skies in Sky 5. He is the only helicopter storm chasing meteorologist in the state of Oklahoma. Prior to joining KOCO 5, Sowder served as Meteorologist for KOAA News 5 in Colorado Springs, CO, and Chief Meteorologist for KJCT News 8 in Grand Junction, CO. Read More

Lightfoot Family Band

Thank you to The Lightfoot Family band for their recent performance. Tove Thunell grew up the Sweden. She developed an interest in American folk music by listening to musicians such as Woody Guthrie and The Carter Family. Joshua Lightfoot was born here in Oklahoma and grew up around music. He plays the guitar, the banjo, mandolin and fiddle. Joshua and Tove met for the first time in 2013 at the Woody Guthrie Folk festival in Okemah, Oklahoma.

Groundswell International CEO Speaks to Epworth Villa Residents

Thank you to Steve Brescia, CEO of Groundswell International, for speaking at our Women's Coffee group today. He brought us a program titled “Creating Solutions to Global Hunger from the Ground Up.” Groundswell works with partners to spread farmer-led agro-ecology and strengthen sustainable local food economies in countries around the world and in the US. Nearly 800 million people around the world don’t have enough to eat. 80% of those are family farmers in the developing world. Read More

Rev. Dr. Clewell To Lead Upcoming Vesper Service

The Rev. Dr. David Clewell, Senior Pastor, Quail Springs United Methodist Church will be the preacher our upcoming vesper service. Dr. Clewell is also a member of the Epworth Villa Board of Directors. He has served as the successful pastor at Arnett, Sayre, Shawnee, and Sallisaw, prior to being appointed to The Quail Springs UMC which he has led to a very successful building program. Kevin "KJ" Johnson Inspirational Speaker

We are excited to have Kevin Johnson speak to our residents about his remarkable fight back from death. Kevin is known as “KJ” to his friends. KJ was once a college basketball player who became the youngest head college basketball coach in the country at the age of 24. That is until he suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. His long recovery included having to relearn how to walk, talk, swallow and function overall again. He did it with the help of his wife, a former Miss Oklahoma. Read More

Wiley Post Living History

Residents enjoyed hearing Wiley Post brought to life by Oklahoma History Museum staff person Walter Eskridge.

Living history is a tool used by historians to engage and inspire the public through entertaining interactions that investigate the past. The living history character can bring a view of the past through opinions, eye-witness accounts, clothing, and artifacts. This special programming makes history personal and something that will be remembered long after the experience. Read More

Reverend Andrew Haynes to lead vespers

The Reverend Andrew Haynes will preach the sermon at the April 14th Vesper Service. Reverend Haynes was born in West Texas but grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University before he answered the call to the Ministry. Reverend Haynes has been a pastor for 11 years, six of which have been served at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He has been married for 9 years and has an 18 month old son who is becoming very active. Read More

Reverend Joshua Attaway to lead Vesper Service

We are excited to have The Reverend Joshua Attaway lead our next vesper service. Rev. Attaway has been a lifelong member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. His parents, Dave and Jana Attaway, joined St. Luke’s several years before Josh was born. Therefore he was baptized and confirmed into Christian Membership at St. Luke’s. Josh was very active in church activities during his upbringing and when he announced his call into the ministry he had the full support of the congregation. Read More
