Express Ranch and Patty Wagon Burgers

We went to visit the Express Ranch in Yukon to see the famous Express Clydesdales! We saw the horses and other animals at the ranch up close and personal and heard about how they are taken care of and trained. After we left the ranch, we went to Bethany for Patty Wagon Burgers. Read More

The newly formed Epworth Villa Book Club met and shared books and authors that they have read in the past month. They discussed the authors and various other works they have written. It was a good time to make a list of future reads! Read More

Governor Nigh

Former Governor George Nigh told some fantastic stories Thursday Morning as he was the guest speaker for the newly formed Edmond Satellite Rotary Club at Epworth Villa. In 1950, at the age of twenty-three, George Nigh became the youngest member of the state legislature when he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives from Pittsburg County. In 1953 he introduced the bill that would make the song "Oklahoma!" from the Broadway musical the official state song. Read More

Veteran's Day Celebration

A lovely program was presented in the Epworth Villa Ballroom to honor all of our Veterans. The Posting of the colors was performed by Northwest Classen High School Air Force Jr. ROTC. Women's Coffee

This morning's presenter was Walter Lambert. The title of his talk was "Presidential Greatness." Over the past 228 years of our national history, 45 American Presidents have served the nation. Over the past 70 years, 18 polls have been conducted asking historians to rank American Presidents. He told which presidents were ranked the highest, which presidents were picked as the worst, and what criteria did historians use to make their selections. Read More

Trick or Treat

The children from Quail Spring United Methodist Church Mother's Day Out Program visited Epworth Villa. The children were all dressed in costumes for Halloween. They sang a few songs in the Coffee Lounge before receiving Candy from the Residents. Read More

Timeless Bridal Show

Students from UCO Fashion Marketing and Aging and Adult Studies put on a Bridal Show. the show was in the grand ballroom and featured vintage wedding dresses from 6 Epworth Villa Residents as well as dresses from 4 bridal shops in the metro. Over 200 guests attended the inaugural event. Read More

Edmond Satellite Rotary Club at Epworth Villa

The first organizational meeting of the Edmond Rotary Club Satellite Club at Epworth Villa was held at 7:30. All of the board members of the Edmond Rotary Club explained their positions. there was discussion on how the Club would be run going forward. The club is open to anyone and can be used as a "make up" club for other Rotarians. The next meeting will be November 16th with former Governor George Nigh speaking. Cost will be $10. Read More


AARP held its safe driving class in the Woodworth Room. Attendees generally receive a discount on their car insurance by taking this class. Read More

Presentation: How to pay for Senior Living

A presentation was giving by Nikki Buckelew with Mature Moves. She had a panel of experts that helped attendees sort through the various aspects of paying for senior living. There were approximately 100 in attendance. Read More

New Presidnet/CEO

Epworth Villa announces its new CEO, Ron Kelly. Ron comes to Epworth Villa from Frisco, TX. Ron says that he attended seminary while working as a CPA, he sensed God's calling to serve him at this time. He later discovered that serving him in a faith-based retirement community was the fulfillment of that calling. We are delighted to have Ron's leadership. Clothing Drive for Skyline Ministries

A clothing drive took place over three days. Epworth Villa Residents donated current, in-season clothing for Syline Ministries. The collection was a success! At the same time, the Exodus House collected household items for their ministry as well. We are blessed to have residents with a giving spirit! Read More

KOCO Meteorologist

Shelby Hays, morning Meteorologist from KOCO 5 shared a program on what the damage from tornadoes looks like depending on how they are ranked according to their wind speeds. Shelby is originally from Velma, Oklahoma. She was the last intern that Gary England had before he retired. She said that he is still a mentor to her. Shelby directs the storm chasers across the state during storms. Read More

Pet Blessing

Chaplain Jessica Higgins led a short Pet Blessing Service on the lawn, just outside the Brill Chapel at Epworth Villa. There were many dogs and cats and their humans in attendance. Chaplain Higgins expressed that God created pet’s to be human companions and part of our families. She further explained that our pets provide us purpose and comfort. It was a special time for all who participated. Read More

Ladies Coffee Guest Speaker Kathy Wallis

As always, the speaker for the Ladies Coffee did not disappoint. Local attorney, Kathy Wallis gave a great presentation on leaving a Legacy Will. Kathy emphasized that a Legacy Will is not binding, but more of an Ethical Will. She suggested that we should ask and answer questions about our lives beyond the financial aspects of life. She stressed that we should share our values, hardships, and hopes and dreams with those who care about us. She also suggested that we write it out. Read More

Exodus House Presentation

Tony Altizer from the Exodus House gave a short presentation on the ministry of the Exodus House and how we at Epworth Villa could help. The Exodus house is a 6 month temporary residential project. This project is for those recently released from prison who can live with their families while they successfully re-enter life outside the prison walls. Residents can donate household items to help furnish the apartments of the Exodus House. Read More

Meet Tom Harned

Tom Harned moved to Epworth Villa in 2014. He was born in Ardmore and grew up in Duncan, OK.
Tom obtained a BS from the University of Tulsa, a MPH from the University of Oklahoma and an Ed. D. from Oklahoma State University. He held educational positions at Cameron University in Lawton, OK, Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa, OK and The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, OKC, and Langston University, Langston, OK.
